How to Survive the Summer B-B-Que

The diet is going great but now you have been invited to a summer B-B-Que. How do you enjoy the great food and drinks and stay on track?

If you are serious about keeping the carbs out of your diet then this is an easy transition to make. You just look at the options and be creative with your choices.

I live in Texas and we are serious about our grilling, smoking and B-B-Que. I love a good brisket, pulled pork, chicken and ribs. The meat is great and the one concession you can give yourself at the cookout is the sugar in the sauces.

But how do you adjust for all of the other food? Let me give you some alternatives.

Switch potato salad for coleslaw; Corn on the cob for Green beans cooked with bacon. If hamburgers and hot dogs are on the menu, skip the bread and buns and load up with the fixings and meat. Skip the chips and have fresh sliced crispy veggies and some ranch dip.

When it comes to drinks at the festivities, bring your own low-carb beer, skip the fruity drinks, and try Coke Zero. A gin and tonic (sugar Fee) or bourbon and Coke Zero are really pretty low carb drinks. Unsweetened tea (With your own sweetener) for drink refreshments is so refreshing in the summer heat. No one will be offended if you show up with a few of your own favorite items.

Just because you are trying to lose weight does not mean you have to sit on the sidelines when it comes to delicious food at the summer B-B-Que. With a little imagination and creativity, you will actually end up with the most delicious plates in the gathering. Remember this isn’t a diet this is a life-changing transition.
